Certified translation of official documents for embassies and government entities in Egypt

Last updated: 21 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by: the embassy translation team at COT – Consulting Office for Translation, certified translation in Egypt since 1992

Visa appointments are often booked before documents are ready, so speed matters. A fast certified translation is possible for most embassy files – but only if accuracy is not sacrificed, because a rejected document costs far more time than it saved. This guide explains what drives turnaround and price, and how to get your embassy translation quickly at a fair rate.

Typical turnaround times

Document setUsual turnaround
One to three standard civil documents (birth, marriage, ID, police certificate)Often within 24–48 hours
Typical visa file (bank statement, HR letter, commercial register, certificates)Around 1–2 working days
Academic file (degree plus multi-page transcripts)Around 2–3 working days
Long contracts, reports or court filesScheduled by volume
Urgent serviceSame day or next day where capacity allows

These are guide times, not guarantees; we confirm a delivery time with each quote.

What affects the price

We do not publish a fixed price list because the fair price depends on the job. The main factors are:

  • Language pair: Arabic–English is widely available; rarer languages cost more.
  • Length and density: a dense transcript is more work than a short certificate.
  • Subject: legal, medical and technical texts need specialist linguists.
  • Urgency: express delivery may carry a surcharge.
  • Format: number of certified hard copies and courier delivery.

Send scans by WhatsApp or email and you will receive a clear quote with the delivery time before any work starts. More on pricing logic in translation services explained.

How to get your translation faster

  1. Send all pages at once as clear scans, including stamps and the back sides.
  2. Write the exact passport spelling of every name.
  3. State the embassy, visa type and target language.
  4. Mention your appointment date so we can schedule correctly.
  5. Approve the quote quickly and choose PDF delivery if the embassy accepts it.

Speed without rejected documents

Each embassy sets its own rules. Most accept a certified translation from a recognised office in Cairo, but some require specific translators or a certain target language, and some original documents must first be legalised at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Egypt is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so legalisation follows the traditional chain. We check names, numbers and dates on every express job, because errors – not slow translation – are the main reason files are delayed. Read translation mistakes that can delay your visa and our list of documents you need translated for a visa.

Frequently asked questions

Can you translate my documents today?

Often yes for short documents received early in the day. Send scans and your deadline and we will confirm before you pay.

Is a fast translation still certified?

Yes. Express jobs follow the same review and certification steps; we prioritise them in the schedule rather than skipping checks.

Do embassies accept scanned PDFs?

Some do, many want stamped hard copies. Check your embassy's instructions; we can provide both.

Why don't you publish prices?

Because the fair price depends on language, length, subject and urgency. A free quote based on your actual documents is more accurate than a generic list.
