Certified translation of certificates and transcripts for universities and embassies

Last updated: 21 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by: the academic translation team at COT – Consulting Office for Translation, certified translators in Egypt since 1992

Scientific research translation means turning theses, journal papers, abstracts and research proposals into another language without losing technical precision. Researchers in Egypt need it to publish internationally, apply for scholarships, register a thesis or present findings to foreign supervisors. At COT, research is translated by subject specialists and reviewed for terminology, consistency and academic style.

What research documents do we translate?

  • Master's and PhD theses, or their abstracts and summaries.
  • Journal articles and conference papers for submission or reference.
  • Research proposals and statements of purpose for scholarships and supervisors abroad.
  • Clinical study documents, lab protocols and technical reports.
  • Published works by others that you need to cite in your own language.

Why scientific translation needs specialists

A general translator may produce fluent text that is scientifically wrong. Research translation requires:

  • Correct terminology – established terms in the target language, not literal renderings.
  • Consistency – the same concept translated the same way from abstract to conclusion.
  • Accurate data – units, figures, tables, formulas and statistical notation kept intact.
  • Academic style – clear, formal language that follows the conventions of the field.
  • References – citations kept in the required style, with titles of foreign sources left in their original language where appropriate.

We assign research to translators with a background in the relevant field – medicine, engineering, law, economics or social sciences – and use translation followed by proofreading by a second linguist.

Translation or academic editing?

If you wrote your paper in English yourself, you may only need language editing. If your source text is in Arabic, you need full translation. Many researchers combine both: translation of the Arabic draft, then proofreading and editing to polish the final version before journal submission. Note that editing improves language; it does not change your scientific content or conclusions.

Certificates and transcripts for study abroad

Alongside research, applicants usually need certified translations of degree certificates and transcripts. Those are official documents with their own rules – see our guide to academic certificate translation in Egypt.

Our process

  1. Send your file (Word is best, so we can keep formatting) and tell us the field and target journal or university.
  2. We agree on terminology preferences, the reference style and the delivery date.
  3. A subject specialist translates; a second linguist reviews.
  4. You receive an editable file, and we answer any follow-up questions about terms.

Frequently asked questions

Do you translate only the abstract?

Yes. Many universities and journals only require a translated abstract or summary, and we can translate it separately.

Will my research be kept confidential?

Yes. Unpublished research is handled only by the team assigned to your project and is not shared.

Can you keep my tables, equations and figures?

Yes, when you send an editable file we preserve tables and equations and translate labels and captions.

How long does a thesis translation take?

It depends on length, subject and language pair. A short abstract can be quick, while a full thesis is planned in stages so that terminology stays consistent. We confirm a realistic delivery date before we start, so plan ahead if you have a submission deadline.

Which languages are available?

Mainly Arabic, English, French and German, plus many other languages on request.
