Technical Translation Services: Manuals, Specs and Tenders

Professional translation of company, financial and technical documents

Last updated: 21 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by: the technical translation team at COT – Consulting Office for Translation, certified translation in Egypt since 1992

Technical translation turns engineering, industrial and scientific content into accurate, usable text in another language. A wrong unit, tolerance or warning can cause equipment damage, rejected tenders or injury. Our technical translation services pair subject-matter linguists with strict terminology control so that engineers, operators and regulators can rely on every line.

What we translate

SectorTypical documents
Construction and contractingTender documents, bills of quantities, method statements, specifications
Manufacturing and industryOperation and maintenance manuals, process descriptions, quality procedures
Oil, gas and energyHSE procedures, technical reports, equipment data sheets
ChemicalsSafety data sheets, product labels, technical data
IT and telecomsUser guides, software documentation, interface text
Research and IPPatents, scientific papers, test reports

For construction projects in particular, see construction translation for general contracting; for research, translation of scientific research.

What makes technical translation difficult

  • Terminology: each industry, and often each client, uses specific terms. Consistency across hundreds of pages is essential.
  • Units and numbers: metric and imperial units, decimal separators and tolerances must be handled exactly.
  • Safety language: warnings and cautions follow conventions that must be preserved.
  • Formats: drawings, tables, CAD exports and spreadsheets need careful layout work.
  • Arabic technical vocabulary: some English terms have several Arabic equivalents in use; the right one depends on the sector and audience in Egypt or the Gulf.

Our technical workflow

  1. Glossary first: we extract key terms and agree them with your engineers on larger projects.
  2. Subject-matched translation by a linguist with technical background.
  3. Bilingual revision focused on numbers, units and terminology.
  4. Automated QA to catch mismatched figures and untranslated segments.
  5. Layout check against the original, including tables and drawings.

Translation memory reuses approved sentences across manual updates, which speeds up revisions and lowers cost on repeated content.

Tenders and deadlines

Tender submissions often come with fixed, short deadlines and large volumes. Tell us early: we can split work between linguists sharing one glossary and finish with a consistency review. Where a bid requires certified translations of company documents, we certify those as well – see business translation services.

When technical documents need certification

Most manuals and specifications only need an accurate professional translation. Certification becomes necessary when a technical document is submitted to an authority: product registration files, conformity certificates, test reports for regulators, engineering degrees for professional syndicates, or documents attached to a court case or arbitration. Tell us the receiving body when you order, so we can deliver a certified, stamped version where required and an editable file for your own team to reuse.

Supporting files we can work with

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, InDesign exports and many text-based formats. Sending editable files saves formatting time and reduces cost. Scanned drawings can be handled, but annotations may need a separate table of translated labels.

Frequently asked questions

Do your technical translators have engineering backgrounds?

We assign linguists with relevant technical experience and subject knowledge, and a second linguist reviews every translation.

Can you use our existing terminology?

Yes. Send your glossary or earlier translations and we will follow them.

Do you translate safety data sheets?

Yes. Note that regulatory format requirements vary by country, so tell us the target market.

Can you meet a tender deadline?

Usually, if we know the volume and deadline early. Large files are split across linguists with a final consistency review.

Request a technical translation quote

Send your files, target language and deadline. We will propose a glossary approach, schedule and price.
