Legal Translation Services in Egypt: Contracts, Courts, POAs

Certified legal translation of contracts, court papers and official records

Last updated: 21 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by: the legal translation team at COT – Consulting Office for Translation, certified translation in Egypt since 1992

Legal documents leave no room for approximation. A misplaced word in a contract, judgment or power of attorney can change rights and obligations. Our legal translation services in Egypt cover the full range of documents that lawyers, companies and individuals submit to courts, notaries, ministries and foreign authorities, translated by linguists who understand both languages and the legal systems behind them.

How our legal translation process works

  1. Review of purpose: we ask where the translation will be used – an Egyptian court, a foreign authority, a counterparty – because this affects terminology and format.
  2. Specialist assignment: a legal translator familiar with the relevant area of law and both legal systems.
  3. Translation that preserves structure, numbering and defined terms so clauses can be cross-referenced.
  4. Bilingual revision by a second linguist, with special attention to parties, dates, amounts and obligations.
  5. Certification with the office's stamp, signature and date.

Bilingual contracts

For contracts signed in two languages, we can produce side-by-side layouts where each clause appears in Arabic and English. Agree in the contract which language prevails in case of conflict, and have both versions reviewed before signature. A translator cannot give legal advice, but can flag ambiguities in the source that your lawyer should resolve.

Documents for use abroad and in Egypt

Egyptian legal documents used abroad often need authentication at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and legalisation at the destination country's embassy. Foreign documents for Egyptian authorities usually need legalisation in the issuing country and at the Egyptian mission there, followed by certified Arabic translation. Egypt is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is generally not sufficient; check the receiving authority's current rules. For documents going to ministries, see government translation services in Cairo.

Confidentiality

Legal files are sensitive. We use documents only for the translation ordered, limit access to the assigned linguists and can sign a confidentiality agreement before you send material.

Frequently asked questions

Are your legal translations accepted by Egyptian courts?

Certified translations from established offices are commonly submitted in Egyptian proceedings. For a specific case, confirm any special requirement with your lawyer or the court.

Can you translate a power of attorney for use abroad?

Yes. We translate the POA and advise on the usual legalisation chain; the exact steps depend on the destination country.

Do you provide legal advice?

No. We translate faithfully and can point out ambiguous wording, but legal advice must come from a qualified lawyer.

How long does a contract translation take?

It depends on length and complexity. A short agreement may take one to two working days; long contracts are scheduled with you.
